Coming Soon: Torch

How to search globally across AOK: Search once and get results from anywhere in the application.

Updated: April 2026

What Is Torch?

Torch is the new super-charged search feature inside AOK.

Think of it as the single search bar for everything you’re allowed to see: People, Equipment, and Communications across the entire AOK product suite.

Why Torch Exists

As AOK has grown, so has the amount of data inside it:

  • Personnel records

  • Equipment records and NSNs

  • Announcements and RFIs

  • Direct messages and chats

  • Hand receipts and forms

The problem

Until now:

  • You had to know where something lived before you could search for it.

  • Searches were limited to one tab at a time.

  • A small typo could mean “no results.”

Torch fixes that.

What Problems Torch Solves

1. You No Longer Have to Guess Where to Look

You type once. Torch searches everywhere that you have access.

2. Equipment Lookup Just Got Much Easier

One of the biggest improvements is the Global NSN Catalog.

If you search an NSN:

  • Even if your unit doesn’t own it,

  • Even if it’s not in your property book,

  • Even if you’ve never seen it before…

Torch can still return:

  • The standardized item name

  • Common aliases

  • Basic metadata

  • Shared reference photos

You can identify unfamiliar gear without:

  • Calling another unit

  • Searching online

  • Using legacy systems

  • Asking around in group chats

You stay inside AOK.

3. Search Is More Forgiving

Torch is designed to handle:

  • Typos

  • Partial words

  • Nicknames

  • Slight formatting mistakes

You don’t need to type the exact perfect phrase to get a result.

4. It Keeps Data Secure

Torch respects AOK’s strict permission model.

That means:

  • You can only see data you’re already authorized to see.

  • You cannot discover private data from another unit.

  • Private messages remain private.

  • Sensitive equipment data (like serial numbers or quantities from other units) is never exposed.

The only truly shared data is the Global NSN catalog (and that excludes unit-specific details).

Security is built into the foundation of Torch.

How Torch Works:

Tap search in the bottom navigation bar in the AOK app or the top search bar if using the web app.

Type what you’re looking for.

Torch searches:

  • Personnel

  • Communications

  • Equipment

Click the filter icon in the top right corner to filter your results.

Results are grouped by type (People, Equipment, Messages, etc.).

Tap a result and you'll be taken directly to the correct screen inside Mustr or Log-E.

Usage Example

A supply NCO receives a hand receipt with an unfamiliar NSN.

Instead of:

  • Leaving AOK

  • Searching G-army

  • Calling another unit

They:

  • Open AOK

  • Type the NSN into Torch

  • Instantly see the item name and photo

  • Confirm what it is

Done.
